Clearing opens weeks before results day. How clearing works →

A Level results for summer 2027 are released to students on Thursday, 12 August 2027. Schools get them a day early under restricted release, which is why teachers already know your grades when you walk in. Most schools open their doors from 8am; UCAS Track starts updating shortly after, but it only shows whether your offer is confirmed, not your grades.

For reference, results day in 2026 was Thursday, 13 August 2026. The pattern holds every year: A Levels on a Thursday in mid August, GCSEs the Thursday after.

The timeline around results day

What to have ready on the morning

Your UCAS letters and login, your exam certificates from previous years, a phone that holds charge, and a quiet place to make calls. If there's any chance you'll use Clearing, research backup courses the week before, because the good places go on the first morning.

Common questions

What time are A Level results released?

Schools and colleges usually open from 8am on results day. UCAS Track updates from around 8:15am, though it only shows your offer status, never your grades. Your grades come from your school or college, in person or by whatever method it has told you.

Why is results day always a Thursday?

JCQ, the body that coordinates the exam boards, sets a common results date each year and it falls on a Thursday in mid August. Schools receive results the day before under restricted release so staff can prepare.

What if I miss my offer?

Check UCAS first: universities often confirm places even with a near miss. If not, Clearing matches you with courses that still have places, and priority reviews of marking are available for anyone whose university place depends on the outcome.

When is GCSE results day 2027?

One week later, Thursday 19 August 2027. It has its own page on this site.
